Technology Policy

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Currently, middle school students are allowed to use their cell phones or any other technology (headphones, watches, etc) during non-instructional parts of the day. Starting January 6th, we will be updating our policy to support student focus and learning. Additional details about the new guidelines are below. We appreciate your support as we implement this update.

This notice is to inform you of Kingswood’s electronic device policy. This policy is aimed toward eliminating cell phone and electronic device-related issues that occur throughout the day and toward protecting the classroom environment as a place of learning.  While cell phones and electronic devices are tools, they can be a distraction at school and cause disruptions in students' learning environments.

**Cell phone and electronic device usage is not permitted in any way during class time.

**Cell phone and electronic device usage is not allowed on campus during the school day.

**Taking videos or pictures of other students while on campus without their consent is a violation of this policy.

Furthermore, Kingswood is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property, so if you are concerned for the safety of your student’s cell phone and electronic devices, please have them leave it at home.

The consequences for failing to adhere to this policy are as follows:

First Violation- Verbal Reminder

Second Violation- Teacher contacts guardian & referral to admin for documentation. Phone confiscated and kept by the teacher for a period/day. (Phone moves with the student)
Third Violation – Referral to administration + parent contact (parent must pick up   in the office)
Fourth Violation – Student may:
📲 Be required to check device in with a staff member daily
🚫 Lose the privilege to bring a device to school

Devices checked in may be stored in a secure location outside the classroom.

*** Need to get in touch with your student during the school day? You need to call the office, and we will bring them up to speak to you***

We appreciate your support in fostering academic success and maintaining a positive, productive learning environment for all students.

Sincerely,

Karen Hanks
